South Korean regulator rejects Broadcom's $15.5 million voluntary fine
South Korea's antitrust watchdog said on Tuesday it had decided to reject U.S. chipmaker Broadcom's offer of voluntary compensation of 20 billion won ($15.5 million) for unfair business practices against Samsung Electronics.
According to the plan proposed by Broadcom in January this year, the company promised to provide a three-year warranty service for the components purchased by Samsung from March 2020 to July 2021, and will use 20 billion won in funds through the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association to cultivate Chip specialists and support fabless companies.
But South Korea's Fair Trade Commission (FTC) said on Tuesday that the proposal: "is not sufficient as an appropriate measure to restore the fair trade order and safeguard the interests of other industry players." Determine the appropriate level of punishment.
